Sequel to the decision of the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi yesterday to field business mogul, Tonye Dele Cole as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2019 gubernatorial election, Dakuku Peterside has announced his decision to support Cole.  Peterside, who is the current Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), announced his decision to step down his ambition and queue behind Amaechi's choice via a statement last night.  The NIMASA DG was the party's candidate in the 2015 guber polls but lost to the incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike via a ruling of the Supreme Court which overturned the initial verdicts of the election tribunal and Appeal Court which annulled the election due to widespread violence and electoral malpractices.   Below is his statement: UNITY TO TRIUMPH - DAP Dear Compatriots,  Yesterday our leader , Rt. Hon. C. R. Amaechi, whom we all subscri

Amaechi floors Abe again as APC invites Ojukaye Flag-Amachree to NEC

Image
The invitation today and eventual attendance of the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ojukaye Flag-Amachree to the National Executive Committee of the party in Abuja seems to have settled the issue of who is the authentic chairman in the state.  This has also shown the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as having the upper hand in the power tussle between him and the Senator representing Rivers South East, Magnus Abe, over who controls the party in Rivers State.  The battle of supremacy has been ongoing since Amaechi allegedly directed all chieftains and supporters of the party to suspend the pursuit of their ambitions and rebuild the party.  In the course of the crisis, Abe's supporters were edged out of the leadership structures of the party in the various local government area chapters.  They responded by referring to the new structure as 'Amaechi's structure'.  The recent ward and local

Come 2019, Rivers State should have a Governor from the riverine axis of the state. This is the path to justice, equity, peace, and harmonious co-existence. This, women of the state, under the aegis of Rivers Women Alliance (RIWA), are convinced would assuage the feelings of marginalization and political injustice pervading the riverine areas. The group came out with this position today during a press conference the group held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.  "It is with deep sense of commitment that we call to register our desire for the need for a riverine Governor come 2019. This call became very necessary as it is the only part to equity, fairness, justice and enhancement of peaceful coexistence in our dear State".  RIWA regretted that though the state was made up of upland and riverine, its leadership has over the years been domiciled in a particular section.  It listed Sir Peter Odili, Rt. TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, RIVERS STATE CHAPTER HELD AT THE STATE PARTY SECRETARIAT, NO. 63 PORT HARCOURT-ABA EXPRESSWAY BY GARRISON ON MONDAY, 20TH AUGUST, 2018. My beloved Rivers people; following a critical appraisal of the PHALGA Constituency 3 bye-election of Saturday, August 18, 2018 the Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has arrived at some incontrovertible facts about the deliberate actions of Governor Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Government officials, PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission all aimed at scuttling the bye-election. 1. Some hours after the voting process commenced across the 142 units of the constituency, words came out through the agents of both parties that the APC candidate was winning comfortably in most of the units. No sooner the information was given to Gov. Nyesom Wike than he mobilised his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Promise Nwosu who led fully armed officers and men of the Nigeria Pol

Rivers APC Accuses Wike, PDP Of Shopping for Judge to Stop Declaration of PHALGA 3 Bye-Election Result

Image
The attention of All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter has been drawn to ongoing efforts by Gov. Nyesom Wike and officials of Rivers State Government to enlist the services of a judge of the Rivers State Judiciary to sit and grant an injunction stopping the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding to conclude and announce the result of last Saturday’s PHALGA 3 Constituency bye election. So far, all the judges approached to execute the scheme have politely turned it down. The APC salutes the courage of these judges. We call on those yet to be contacted to emulate their colleagues and turn down an attempt by the government to abuse the judicial system. The APC believes that despite the threats being made against those judges who have refused to be dragged into the matter, the judges of the State Judiciary, as noble men and women, will continue to display this kind of uncommon bravery and strict adherence to the tenets of the hallowed profession o
