My Mother, other women mentored me in politics - Rivers APC Chair, Ojukaye Flag Amachree tells Women aspirants
Women have been called upon to appropriate the transformative influence they have in the society to make a difference and achieve greater impact in the lives of their children and the larger society.
This call was made by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree when he played host to female aspirants for House of Representatives and House of Assembly on the platform of the party in Port Harcourt.
To this end, Flag-Amachree urged the women to take advantage of the political process to affect the society positively.
He charged them to continue to increase their relevance in their various local government areas and continue to make undeniable impacts in their various constituencies.
Recalling that his foray into the political arena was due to the support and mentorship of his mother and first cousin, Flag-Amachree advised them to continue to reach out to their constituents and build and demonstrate capacity to emerge as candidates during the forthcoming primaries.
Earlier, the APC female aspirants, speaking through their leader and a House of Assembly aspirant, Dabota Godswill Jumbo, had appealed to the leadership of the party to create a more enabling environment to encourage more women to participate in politics.
They also called on the party leadership to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants during the forthcoming primaries to encourage a fair participation and emergence of women as candidates.
The women had earlier also paid consultative visits to the State Secretary of the party, Emeka Beke, and a former member of the State House of Assembly, Irene Inimgba.
Both chieftains of the APC in the State encouraged them sustain the drive to create the right awareness of their deliverables when elected and reaching out to key stakeholders across the party.
The group comprised House of Representatives aspirants, Victoria Wobo Nyeche, Port Harcourt federal constituency 1, and Nancy Stephens-Ijaopo, Port Harcourt federal constituency 2; and House of Assembly aspirants, Urey Ejims, Obio/Akpor 1, Chioma Amadi-Oparaeli, Port Harcourt 1, and Chioma Beke, Emohua.
Others are Linda Timothy Wali, Obio/Akpor 2 Chinwe Austin, Etche 1, and Uloma Siya-Braide Nwuke, Etche 2, Princess Racheal Fibika-Ado, Okrika, Patience Aselemi, Abua/Odual, Charity Wellington, Andoni, and I Edna Nwaobilo, Etche 1.
