Bonny Unemployment Crisis: The Way Forward – Okoloma Ikpangi

Image
By Okoloma Ikpangi Concerning the incident which took place 6pm yesterday, Wednesday, 24/10/2018 in Bonny Kingdom; a riot broke out, which was led by an angry mob as they expressed their distaste concerning the rate of unemployment in Bonny. What people should be aware of is that a lot of on-site employment processes take place within the premises of most companies in our community. This satisfies the interest of company staffs and also alters the employment quota system in our community which is 60% employment for indigenes and 40% employment for non-indigenes. This has been a major contributor in the increase of unemployment in our community. Another major contributor is lack of skills by most indigenes which makes them incompetent for the job they enroll for. Companies have policies which require them to employ those who are competent to handle a given task which is related to the type of service they want because of safety regulations and time management. We’re Not Cultists, But Job Seekers – Bonny Youths Cry Out

Image
NLNG Plant, Bonny at night Youths of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State have declared that their agitation at the palace of the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom was for job placements and not a resort to violence. The youths who spoke to Kristina Reports in Bonny expressed dismay that some disgruntled elements in the community labeled them cultists for protesting the dearth of jobs and the flooding of the community with non-indigenes who now allegedly occupy the job openings in the shutdown operations at the NLNG plant in Bonny. One of them, the youth leader of Abbey-Hart House, Idawari Abbey said “the tag is wrong and misleading,” stressing that “the youths were on a legitimate quest to demand that they benefit from job openings in their land and as such do not qualify to be called cultists”. Some suspected cultists had on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 allegedly hijacked a peaceful protest by some aggrieved job seekers who were at the Perekule Palace to register their

Image
The Chairman of the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre (BIRC), Aladiokuma Hart says the saga of employment racketeering was over at the centre since his assumption of office. He stated this yesterday, Wednesday, October 24, 2018, during a joint meeting of the Bonny Chiefs’ Council (BCC), Pivot-GIS, Daewoo, security agencies, and the monitoring team. Hart, while making his presentation, lamented the rate at which malicious propaganda was orchestrated and targeted towards smearing his reputation and that of his administration. “Employment racketeering is history since the inception of this administration. Since we took over office, we have never collected money from anyone in exchange for an employment opportunity and we will not start now. This administration has maintained the house sharing system as shown by our records and we shall continue in that light”, he added. “It is glaring that this administration has witnessed very low rate of employment which is
