I’m Not Taking Sides In Legislative Assembly Crisis – Bonny LG Chairman
The crisis in the
Bonny Legislative Assembly that has led to the shutdown of that arm of
government for several months now has been described as unfortunate and a
drawback for delivery of good governance to the people.
The Chairman of Bonny
Local Government Area, David Irimagha, who regretted this development promised
to ensure that every effort was made to see to the resumption of legislative
activities in the assembly.
He, however, clarified
that he was not taking sides in the unfortunate crisis, but was allowing the
warring factions to exhaust all legal options available to resolve the issues
involved.
Crisis erupted in the Bonny
Legislative Assembly some months ago when eight members of the assembly led by
Hon. Prince Wilcox allegedly removed the Leader, Hon. Miriam Hart, her Deputy,
Dipinye Jumbo, and the Chief Whip, Christian Jumbo.
Hart approached the
court to declare the action of the eight members illegal, accusing them of
reportedly gaining entry illegally into the chambers while she was away at a
function in Port Harcourt.
Kristina Reports reliably
learnt that interventions by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in
the local government area have yet to yield any reprieve as both factions have
been instituting a plethora of legal actions against each other.
Just recently, the
Hon. Miriam Hart led faction reportedly instituted a criminal case against the Hon.
Prince Wilcox led faction allegedly accusing them of forceful entry into the
legislative chambers, and destruction of public assets, among other charges.
Kristina Reports
learnt the case was adjourned to December 19, 2018 and then to an undisclosed
date.
A reliable source
hinted Kristina Reports that the Wilcox faction pleaded, through their lawyer,
with the trial magistrate to dismiss the case on the grounds that the charges preferred
against were outside the jurisdiction of the court as the purported actions
being adduced as evidence against them happened within the legislative assembly.
Unconfirmed reports
have it that the assembly complex was shut down by security operatives to avert
any breakdown of law and order there.
