2018 BIM: Marathoner, Blessing Edet symbolizes hope for the girlchild - Bonny LG Vice Chairman

The Vice Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Anengi Barasua says Blessing Edet, who emerged best female participant in the 2018 Bonny Island Marathon, symbolizes the winning spirit of the girl child.

She said this today while presenting an award of N30,000 to Miss Edet shortly after she emerged best female athlete in the race.



Represented by the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the Chairman, Bonny LGA, Patience Green, the Vice Chairman noted that history has been made today as, according to her, the 2018 Bonny Island Marathon was the best organized marathon in Bonny LGA.

“As you can see, history has been made today because this is the best organized marathon in Bonny LGA. There has been no other one better than this. I praise the organizers for a successful event,” she said.

Barasua posited that the prize money and other gifts were meant to encourage the girl child to aspire higher and strive harder to achieve greater feats and compete favourably with her peers even if they were male.

She expressed the hope that the event would be an annual event.
